Description

We are pleased to invite to the policy seminar “Economics of Childbearing and Pronatalist Policies” by Hanna Vakhitova, that will take place on February 19 at 18.00 at Kyiv School of Economics.

Abstract

In developed countries the fertility declines with income levels, that is as countries become richer, fertility rates fall over time.

We invite to discuss the economic foundation of this phenomenon. To what extent is the level of well-being in Ukraine linked to parents willingness to invest more in a child’s quality and therefore forgo quantity? To what extent is it possible in Ukraine to combine parenthood with career opportunities?

We will discuss the experience and the current situation in a number of countries: Ukraine, Georgia, Belorus, Latvia and Poland. We will talk about what other governments are trying to do to overcome these obstacles and to increase fertility, and what Ukraine could use for its policy.

The language of the seminar is Ukrainian.
