Round table: Economy of the Cold War with the experts of VoxUkraine and Kyiv School of Economics

Опис

A significant part of the Donbass has instantaneously got the “special status”. The territory controlled by separatists covers nearly 2% of the area of Ukraine, but at the same time, more than 30 companies from the top 200 largest companies in Ukraine are located there. What will happen with business and industry of the occupied territory, and how painful would be a partial loss of Donbass for the Ukrainian economy?

Questions for the discussion:

1. Macroeconomic consequences of the temporary loss of the part of Donbass. Possible scenarios – Cold War, frozen conflict, appearance of quasi-states LNR / DNR with their own institutions. How will Donbass economy interact with the rest of the country, and should we expect any interaction at all?

2. Evaluation of the economic situation: what part of the industry was destroyed, which businesses were temporarily closed, which continue to operate, which will return to work in the nearest future.

3. How will the loss of a significant part of the industry impact Ukrainian economy? Can domestic economy survive the loss of the Donbass industry? How should the state support the economically active population.

4. International experience. Frozen conflicts, failed and quasi-states. The role of external assistance.
