This course aims at giving an overview of EU main economic policies (trade policy, competition policy, banking union, economics of the Eurozone), with a special focus on economic relations between the EU and Ukraine. These policies will be presented both from an academic angle and from a practical one, using numerous concrete cases based on the experience of the lecturer as an official of the European Commission for more than ten years.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, among other things the students should be able to:
Understand the theoretical bases of trade and competition policies
Understand how these policies are put in practice by public authorities, in particular in the EU
Get a better understanding of the functioning of the Eurozone, from a fiscal and monetary point of view
Connect these knowledge with concrete recent cases
Apply these knowledge to the special case of the economic relations between the EU and Ukraine
Get a better understanding of the functioning of the EU, from an insider perspective
Assess the key economic challenges the EU is faced with today
