- Edward W. Walker held an open lecture at KSE
On October 22 Kyiv School of Economics was honored to host Edward W. Walker, Director of the Berkeley Program in Eurasian and East European Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, with an open lecture “What to expect from US policy toward Ukraine and Russia for the remaining years of the Obama presidency”:
“Generally Americans are unhappy about the state of the country. Largely because of economic problems but not only.
They are worried about the international environment. There is a lot of concern that the international environment becomes more dangerous, spinning out of control.
They are particularly worried about Ebola. When people are worried they tend to blame everyone who is in charge.
Americans are also very worried about military operation in Iraq and Syria. All these worries are swinging things in direction of Republicans, who are most likely to win future election. That will make the situation more difficult, the main impact for foreign policy is that the pressure on the President to be more selective in foreign policy will grow up.
After Obama came in the office in 2009, a lot of America’s foreign policy activism didn’t worked out very well, cost an enormous amount of lives and money, and Americans are increasingly skeptical about these efforts.”
