Mr. Ivan Miklos and Mr. Mikulas Dzurinda visit KSE with Open Lecture

On September 11, Kyiv School of Economics is honored to host great Slovak reformers – Ivan Mikloš, former Minister of Finance from Slovakia, currently Member of Parliament  and  Mikulas Dzurinda, former Prime Minister of Slovakia, currently President of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies who will have a lecture on “Reform Agenda in Ukraine”.

Mr. Mikuláš Dzurinda is a Slovak politician who was Prime Minister of Slovakia from 30 October 1998 to 4 July 2006. He was the founder and leader of the Slovak Democratic Coalition (SDK) and then the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union. Mikuláš Dzurinda’s 2nd government was labelled as a reformist one, pro-market and most effective one in economic matters in Slovakia since 1993. Carried out reforms included flat tax 19%, pension reform (second pillar), labor market reform, social reform, health care reform. During his term Slovakia joined both the European Union and NATO.

Dzurinda later served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in Prime Minister Iveta Radičová’s coalition government from 2010 to 2012. On 3 December 2013, Dzurinda was elected as President of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies.

Mr. Ivan Mikloš is a Slovak politician and the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Slovakia (2002-2006, 2010-2012). He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister for Economy between 1998 and 2002. In 2004, he was named the top business reformer by the World Bank’s Doing Business report. Under his leadership, Slovakia jumped to 32nd place (of 178 economies) on the ease of doing business index.
