Microeconomics from Insiders: firms, markets and state regulation
Description
Are business and the government partners, antagonists or subordinates? Is state involvement in the economy justified and what is its optimal level?
Kyiv School of Economics and VoxUkraine invite you to a two-day seminar that will set up a framework for thinking about these questions and provide insider opinions on the issues.
Some people argue that state regulation impedes business development, and therefore, the less regulation the better. Ideally then, one should cancel all state regulation and let the “invisible market hand” do its job. However, no state has yet done this. Why? Because sometimes markets fail; because there are interests other than business (e.g. of consumers, employees or the unemployed); because of asymmetric information – and these are just a few reasons. So regulation is needed. But how much regulation? How should it be designed? When should it be applied?
