- The National Bank and KSE have chosen the best researches in the field of monetary policy and banking sector
The National Bank and Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) have chosen the best researches in the field of monetary policy and the banking sector following the results of the third scientific conference for students and young researchers “The Banking Sector and Monetary Policy: Prospects for Development”.
The conference was held in mid-April by National Bank of Ukraine and Kyiv School of Economics. It was attended by 40 students and young scientists from Kyiv School of Economics, universities, in particular Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman, National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, analytic centers, and the National Bank.
Researchers-participants have presented their researches, as well as young researchers from the National Bank who did not participate in the competition. According to the results, the competition committee has chosen five winners.
The best ones were Jan Aladko (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) and Dmytro Krukovets (Kyiv School of Economics). Denys Klynovsky (Kyiv School of Economics) took second place, and the third place took Oleksii Hamanyuk (Center for Economic Strategy) and Hanna Sholokhova (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv).
The winners of the competition answered the following questions in their researches:
- Is inflation targeting an effective tool for stabilizing the country’s economy?
- What model for short-term forecasting of basic inflation works better?
- How does modern technology of machine learning help to forecast business defaults?
- What risks exist in the deposit guarantee system in Ukraine?
- How can livestock growth in the national currency affect the growth of the country’s economy?
Winners of the competition received valuable prizes from the organizers, the certificates for studying at Kyiv School of Economics, as well as an invitation for internship at the National Bank and participation in the NBU research conference “Communication of the central bank: from secrecy to transparency”, which will take place on May 23-24, 2019.
The work of the young researchers of the National Bank, which did not participate in the competition, were devoted to issues of interaction between macroprudential and monetary policy (Oleksandr Tarnavsky), decomposition of GDP forecast (Natalia Sydorenko), influence of inflation expectations on business decision (Olena Movchun), the impact of increasing the minimum wage in the country on the economy with a high level of shadow wages (Anastasiia Antonova), developing a financial stress index (Vladyslav Filatov), assessing the equilibrium level of retail lending (Pavlo Shykin).
