- Kyiv School of Economics joined the International Group of Economists for the Reconstruction of Ukraine
Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of the Kyiv School of Economics, joined the Economic Policy Advisory Council, created by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The members of the Council will make recommendations to the Ministry of Economy on ensuring the rapid recovery and development of Ukraine.
“We are determined to establish a stable macroeconomic environment that fosters human capital development, attracts foreign direct investment, and ensures sustainable economic growth. The new Advisory Council’s crucial role is to offer ongoing recommendations for crafting effective policies to restore Ukraine both during the war and after our victory,” stated Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister, and Minister of Economy of Ukraine during the meeting.
The Advisory Council will include leading world economists, in particular Roger Myerson, Nobel Laureate in Economics, Professor at the University of Chicago, Kenneth Rogoff, Professor at Harvard University, former Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund, Rory McFarquhar, Senior Vice President for Cooperation, and others. The Council will be chaired by Yurii Gorodnichenko, Professor of the Department of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley.
“We already have developments that will help shape the policy of restoring Ukraine. In particular, these are measures, the implementation of which will ensure macro-financial stability, stimulate the development of the economy and increase state budget revenues,” said KSE President Tymofiy Mylovanov.
Among the main tasks of the newly Advisory Council is to provide ongoing recommendations for the development of an effective policy for the reconstruction of Ukraine during the war and after the victory.
“Ukraine has a difficult road ahead, and only it can fulfill its home task and turn into a modern country with strong democratic institutions and a dynamic economy. The international community offers Ukraine firm support during the war and in the post-war period,” added Yurii Gorodnichenko.
The inaugural meeting was supported by the KSE Institute, which will also contribute to the further work of the Advisory Council. The meeting was also attended by Oleksii Sobolev, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Natalia Shapoval, Head of KSE Institute, Olga Slyvynska, Head of Economic Recovery and Development Program, International Relations at KSE.
International economists, who are members of the Council, have prepared a study “Post-War Macroeconomic Architecture for Ukraine”, containing recommendations for reforms and other necessary measures to ensure the economic recovery and development of the state.
The authors of the study focus on four key areas: fiscal policy, monetary policy, the situation on the labour market and the regulatory environment.
