Eugenia Kuznetsova is a media researcher based between Kyiv, Ukraine and Koblenz, Germany with strong background in applied journalism research in conflict-affected society. After defending her PhD in literature analysis at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, she worked as a consultant for the United Nations in Ukraine, specifically with local media in conflict-affected areas in the East of the country.
Dr Kuznetsova focused on impartiality, balanced view, conflict-sensitive reporting, social media ethics and other challenges the local journalists faced after the beginning of the armed conflict. She then continued to work in the same field with OSCE in Ukraine, guiding local media in producing quality media content. Eugenia authored various papers on storytelling and ethical reporting and delivered training sessions for local journalists.
Dr Kuznetsova is also the author of a series of papers in collaboration with Vox Ukraine on the edge of academic and journalistic research that dealt with habits and trends of social media usage among media community in Ukraine. At the moment Eugenia is a research fellow at Kyiv School of Economics, working on the research funded by Norwegian Research Council, that aims to research disinformation and media environment in the East of Ukraine, including occupied territories.
