Active longevity concept: why policy towards elderly requires reconsideration

Description

Welcome to seminar “Active longevity concept: why policy towards elderly requires reconsideration” which will be held January 31 at 17:00.

Both speakers are from the Institute of Demography and Social Studies n.a. M.V.Ptoukha of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine.

Demographic shift should not only be perceived as policy challenges. It is important to find new development opportunities in them. Traditional policy towards elderly is based on the passive protection concept which in practice narrows down to provision of pensions and a limited number of social services. Fast reduction of working-age population, social changes and labour market changes require a new conceptual approach. Active longevity policy foresees that elderly people have the right for a full-fledged participation in all spheres of life, including opportunities for employment and social activity.
