This course provides an overview of International Political Economy (IPE) by touching on the epistemological, ontological and normative foundations of the discipline.
The course begins by outlining the key theoretical debates in the discipline before moving on to an empirical analysis of some IPE dynamics, including international trade; foreign direct investments; capital investments; official development assistance and; monetary operations.
The course will provide opportunities to relate these relatively technical topics to highly politicized issues, including economic and financial crises; development processes in low-income countries and; the impact and direction of globalization.
Some topics will offer an opportunity for in-depth reviews of contemporary case studies.
