Business Intelligence and Data Visualizations is a part of an MBAI program.
Course description:
The purpose of this course is to give students a thorough understanding of business intelligence (BI) and reporting as well as data visualization techniques used in modern business applications. The first part of the course will focus on a general overview of BI, types of visualizations and BI applications in Tableau. In the second part we will switch to Power BI from Microsoft which is a related but somewhat different BI platform. We will learn about DAX, data visualizations and storytelling with Power BI as well as its differences with Tableau. Finally, we will consider R programming capabilities for data visualization. Theoretical material will be supplemented by a large number of short empirical exercises.

By the end of this course students should:
- Understand the steps involved in developing BI solutions for the enterprise
- Become advanced users of major BI platforms
- Know which type of visualization is applicable in each business problem
- Develop hands-on experience with BI and visualizations using in-class and homework assignments
- Be able to apply the practical knowledge at their enterprise or organization
Skills-based objectives:
Students should be able to use Power BI, Tableau and R in their day-to-day business intelligence and data visualization tasks.
