The project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is concerned with research into the integration of the Ukrainian agricultural and food economy into regional and international markets and the stability and sustainability of trade relations. Capacity-building measures such as summer schools and workshops are also planned, which will be carried out at KSE and are also open to students and doctoral candidates from other Ukrainian research institutions.

The summer school on “Household Behaviour: Theory and Applications” was conducted by Professor Michael Grings of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The aim was to impart advanced knowledge in the field of food demand analysis and to provide an introduction to the joint modelling of production, labour input and demand decisions of agricultural households. The analysis of the economic decisions of agricultural households is of particular importance with regard to Ukraine, where a large part of agricultural production still takes place in private households.

The 11 participants came from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) and from four Ukrainian agricultural universities, including the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), Poltava State Agrarian Academy, Tavria State Agrotechnological University, Vinnitsa National Agrarian University and a research institute – National Science Centre “Institute of Agricultural Economics” in Kiev. The partner institution KSE provided a pleasant working atmosphere. Further workshops and summer schools are planned to continue the cooperation within the framework of the project.
