The winner of “Talents for Ukraine” by the KSE Foundation is Oleksandra Matviichuk

Oleksandra Matviichuk, the head of the Center for Civil Liberties, which won Nobel Peace Prize in 2022, won the “Talents for Ukraine” grant program from the KSE Foundation!

The Ukrainian human rights defender is a laureate of the Vasyl Stus, Sakharov “For Freedom of Thought” and “Defender of Democracy” awards, as well as the winner of the “Courageous Woman” award of the US Embassy. In 2022, Oleksandra’s Center for Civil Liberties won the first Nobel Peace Prize in the history of Ukraine. And in 2022, Oleksandra entered the list of the 100 most influential people on the planet according to the version of the magazine “Time”!

Oleksandra is the co-founder of the Center for Civil Liberties. During the Revolution of Dignity, this public organization launched the “legal barricade of the Maidan” – the “Euromaidan-SOS” initiative, which protected activists who were persecuted by the authorities.

In 2014, her team began recording war crimes committed by russians in the occupied Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 57 000 documented by the global initiative was set up in response to the all-out war launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022. Among them are kidnapping, torture, sexual violence and killing of civilians in the occupied territories.

The global action “Save Oleg Sentsov”, launched by the Center for Civil Liberties, united thousands of people from 40 countries around the world and gave impetus to the release of illegally imprisoned Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov and 34 other political prisoners.

During the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, Oleksandra noted that Ukraine needs modern weapons, justice, an international tribunal, and the whole world needs a new international system of peace and security.

Our winner plans to continue working on collecting evidence of war crimes and human rights violations, as well as focusing on creating a new comprehensive justice system in Ukraine. Her goal: restoration of justice for all victims of war crimes.
