- Only 11% of companies have exited Russia: Moncler, Unilever, and others leave in October – KSE Institute
Nearly 2,200 companies, or 54.9% of international brands, continue operations in Russia, with only 440 having fully exited the Russian market. In October, experts from the KSE Institute tracked the exit of 11 companies, including the Italian luxury brand Moncler, consumer goods giant Unilever, and others.
These findings come from the KSE Institute’s ongoing monitoring as part of the “Self-Sanctions / LeaveRussia” project, which examines the impact of foreign business exits on the Russian economy.
In total, researchers recorded the exit of 4 companies via liquidation last month: the lock manufacturer Abloy LLC, food industry equipment supplier Ishida, maritime technology company Kongsberg Maritime, and Italian luxury clothing brand Moncler.
Additionally, 7 companies sold their businesses in Russia: A.Raymond Group, Italian infrastructure equipment producer ANAS, automotive supplier Benteler International, construction software developer GRAITEC, automotive parts manufacturer Magneti Marelli, Unilever, and Austrian insurance company UNIQA.
Meanwhile, the KSE Institute updated the status of Fortum (now classified as “exited” following nationalization of assets) and Lindström Group (confirmed business sale).
As of November 6, 2024, 2,197 international companies (54.9% of the total tracked by KSE) remain active in Russia. Another 1,365 foreign firms, or around 34.1%, have scaled back operations and announced plans to leave, while only 440 (11.0% of all records, or 27% of companies that generated revenue in Russia in 2021) have fully exited the market.
