KSE Agrocenter Discussion Series: War and Post-War Agriculture of Ukraine

The Center for Food and Land Use Research at the Kyiv School of Economics is proud to announce the KSE Agrocenter Discussion Series titled “War and Post-War Agriculture of Ukraine,” a series of virtual events dedicated to exploring the agrifood sector’s present challenges and prospects in Ukraine and beyond.

This online workshop, conducted in Ukrainian and in English with simultaneous English-Ukrainian-English translation, will convene via Zoom from November 27 to December 15, 2023. It aims to equip business and policy stakeholders with insights into the current state and future trends of Ukrainian agriculture, fostering evidence-based decision-making.

The event will be graced by high-ranking speakers, including representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as well as delegates from leading agricultural organizations, and esteemed experts from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE). This distinguished panel will also comprise scientists and researchers who are at the forefront of agrarian science and policy.

KSE Agrocenter warmly welcomes agrifood businesses, policy decision-makers, academic peers, international organizations, and stakeholders from various sectors to join a critical dialogue on fostering a resilient agrifood system in Ukraine.

Event Schedule:

Discussion 1: “Agricultural Outlook Ukraine 2023-2030” (Nov 27, Mon, 3:00 – 5:30 PM Kyiv time) 

The KSE Agrocenter Discussion Series opens with an examination of the future of agricultural and food markets in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of strategic information for stakeholders to navigate the wartime and post-war recovery challenges, thereby impacting the country’s and global food security.

Discussion 2: “The African Countries & Ukraine Partnership” (Nov 28, Tue, 3:00 – 5:30 PM Kyiv time)

The second day delves into the partnership opportunities between Ukraine and African countries, with a special focus on Northern Africa. The session will address the agricultural trade balance, challenges due to the war, and the potential for a beneficial relationship between the two regions, considering their unique challenges and strengths.

Discussion 3: “Adaptation, innovative technologies and support instruments” (Nov 29, Wed, 3:00 – 5:30 PM Kyiv time)

The focus is on how Ukrainian agricultural producers are adapting to war-induced challenges such as fuel and fertilizer price surges, and the potential alternatives and financial aids available to support the farming sector during these tumultuous times.

Discussion 4: “Land Market in Ukraine: Status, Efficiency, Transparency” (Nov 30, Thu, 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM Kyiv time) 

A public discussion is set to explore the current state of the agricultural land market in Ukraine, assessing its efficiency and transparency. The session aims to discuss the development and improvement of the market, emphasizing the need for comprehensive land relation monitoring. Discussion 5: “Post-war recovery and EU accession: The critical research needs for the coming decade(upcoming)

The final day of the Discussion Series aims at drafting the roadmap for research and innovation for the next decades of at war and post-war Ukrainian agriculture.
