As a result of the war, damage caused to Vorzel village (Kyiv region) is $52 mln

These are the KSE Institute’s data within the “Russia will pay” project. The calculation of the damage to Vorzel’s infrastructure was carried out on the basis of data collected in the framework of the RebuildUA project, initiated by SmartFarming and Vkursi Zemli. Digitized information about the infrastructure of the Vorzel is the most accurate damage estimate for today. 

At the end of February, Russian military forces entered the village from Bucha side, and more than 3,000 people did not have time to evacuate. The occupiers conducted searches of local residents, robbed their houses. 

In total, 541 buildings were destroyed and damaged in Vorzel as a result of the war. Most of the damages were caused to the village due to the destruction of the housing stock and outbuildings. The amount of such damages is almost $25 mln, of which $17.1 mln is due to 23 apartment buildings’ destruction. What’s more, 173 private houses and 52 townhouses, 206 outbuildings and 11 garages, with a total area of ​​more than 139,000 m2, were destroyed or damaged due to hostilities in the village. As a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine almost 3,000 residents of Vorzel were affected.

In second place in terms of the amount of damage is social infrastructure. In Vorzel, 63 social facilities worth $24.3 million were damaged and destroyed. Among these buildings, 27 hotels and recreation facilities, 4 healthcare institutions, 3 grocery stores, and 1 church were damaged or destroyed. 

The local orphanage was damaged by russian shelling, the Lastivka kindergarten (pictured) was destroyed, and a headquarters was set up in the premises of the psycho-neurological hospital No. 2.

The “Russia will pay” project experts estimated the destruction and damage to 11 industrial and utility buildings in Vorzel at $2.8 million. Another $20,000 worth of damage was caused to the village’s administrative infrastructure.
