Monica Macovei, ex-Minister of justice of Romania visited KSE!

April 27, 2017

On April 20, we were proud to host public lecture of former Justice Minister of Romania Monica Macovei. She spoke about the way of her native country to real anti-corruption policy. Romania has been successful in fighting corruption on the highest levels and itsnational anti-corruption directorate (DNA), which was set up by Ms. Macovei in early 2000s, has proven to be an effective tool in that area. “Too many anti-corruption institutions is a failure,” – Ms. Macovei said at the lecture, referring to several anti-corruption institutions, which were established after Euromaidan revolution and are acting now in Ukraine. One institution, which has a prosecutor, police officers and special equipment (terminals for wiretapping) working together on cases, is the best way to organize the work of such institution, according to Ms. Macovei. Ms. Macovei is currently a member of the European Parliament.

The lecture of Ms. Macovei was a part of #UkraineReforms project, which was launched by Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies in 2014 in partnership with Kyiv School of Economics, Reanimation Package of Reforms and Stronger Together information campaign.
