Leadership in Public Finance Program Closing at KSE

On Wednesday, June 7th Kyiv School of Economics held Closing Ceremony of Leadership in Public Finance Program, joint project of KSE and GIZ with the support of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.

Leadership in Public Finance Program became a profound educational platform that brought together government officials, qualified experts from international organizations, civic activists and well-known faculty with tremendous experience in Public Financial Management, Good Governance, Management and Leadership to work with a team of selected participants, discuss the current challenges in PFM in Ukraine and determine ways to overcome them.

Leadership in Public Finance Program has contributed in addressing one of the major issues in implementing successful reforms: human capacity need for qualified professionals. Over the course, 26 program participants have strengthened their leadership, management and PFM skills. The exposure to the best practices of Good Financial Governance from around the world enables them to design and implement successful reforms in public finance management in Ukraine as well as use this knowledge and skills in day-to- day activities.

The program also contributed to closer cooperation between civil servants at different institutions and wide area of civil society organizations involved in public finance management.

Over the course participants of the Program have worked with:

Participants also took part in a series of meetings and discussions with top representatives of Ministry of Finance, Presidential Administration, National Bank, governmental and civic organizations. During the closing ceremony of the program KSE Community welcomed Oleksandr Danyluk, Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Sergiy Marchenko, Deputy Minister of Finance, Academic Director of Leadership in Public Finance Program, Daniela Bergelt, Head of Cooperation at Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Kiev, Yuliya Tychkivska, Vice President, Management Education KSE as well as KSE Faculty.

“Society has a request for a new generation of professionals, true leaders with values, who are familiar with the best practices of public financial management and are ready to apply them. And it’s you [Alumni of Leadership in Public Finance Program] who shoud become a driving force for positive transformations in Ukraine that would lead to sustainable economic growth. Today is a very important day. Ukraine has received its team of leaders”, – Oleksandr Danylyuk, Minister of Finance of Ukraine addressed the participants.

Deputy Minister of Finance Sergiy Marchenko said that Ukraine is undergoing a comprehensive reform of the financial sector making it necessary to bring up a new generation of qualified professionals, that would be able to implement the relevant transformations. This was the reason for the build-up of such a program in Ukraine. “One of the greatest values of this program is this group of participants, who’ve successfully completed comprehensive selection process and who have the right understanding of public finance system and are already implementing needed changes. I am sure that the number of participants of this program will grow significantly with time and this project will become an integral part of the education of future reform professionals. Jointly we will be able to ensure the further recovery of the public finance system”, Sergiy Marchenko said.

Yuliya Tychkivska, Vice President, Management Education KSE also joined the remarks: “The critical factor is the students of this Program. Your experience, openness to new ideas and proactivity made this program successful. I am very thankful to our Faculty, Guest Speakers and Partners for your willingness to share knowledge and support for the project. And I would like to express huge gratitude to GIZ and Public Finance Management Project Team for making this project a reality and all your activities in Ukraine that truly make a difference.”
