- Over 160 international companies left Russia in 2024 — KSE Institute
In 2024, more than 160 international companies ceased their operations in Russia by liquidating or selling their businesses. Among these are well-known brands such as FedEx, Carlsberg, Unilever, Moncler, Hugo Boss, Danone, Siemens, ExxonMobil, IKEA, and Inditex, the owner of popular labels like Zara, Massimo Dutti, and Bershka.
This information is based on the monitoring conducted by the KSE Institute as part of the “SelfSanctions / LeaveRussia” project, which examines the economic impact of foreign businesses exiting the Russian market.
As of January 1, 2025, a total of 467 companies have completely exited Russia since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. According to the KSE Institute, these companies generated $105 billion in revenue in 2021 (32.8% of total revenue by foreign businesses) and paid approximately $6 billion in taxes (23.3% of all taxes paid by foreign companies before the invasion).
However, over 2,220 companies continue to operate in Russia. These include major corporations such as Philip Morris, Japan Tobacco International, PepsiCo, Raiffeisen Bank, Mars, Nestlé, Metro, Mondelez, and Coca-Cola. Their operations continue to sustain the economy of the aggressor state.
Over 1,300 companies have announced plans to leave but have not yet completed the process. Some have partially sold their businesses, initiated bankruptcy procedures, or faced nationalizing their assets—most recently, this happened to beer giant Anheuser-Busch.
Overall, only 11.5% of international companies have fully exited the Russian market. About 33.5% have suspended or announced plans to cease operations, while 55% remain present in the country.
KSE Institute and its partners in the B4Ukraine coalition call on all international companies still operating in Russia to halt their activities. Every ruble they generate and pay in taxes contributes to financing the war against Ukraine.
The full list of companies, along with their current statuses and updates, is available on the Leave Russia platform.
Additionally, the Leave Russia mobile app is available on the App Store. The app allows users to find information about brands operating in Russia simply by scanning a product’s barcode.
