Volodymyr Kulyk

Biography

Volodymyr Kulyk is a researcher of language policy, identity politics, national identity, nationalism, and political and media discourse. He holds a Doctor of Political Science degree and is a full professor.

He serves as Ukraine’s representative to the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance. He is the author of The Discourse of Ukrainian Media (2010), Language Policy in Multilingual Countries (2021), as well as numerous studies on language policy, identity, ideology, memory politics, and media discourse.

Professor Volodymyr Kulyk is a member of the Association for the Study of Nationalities; the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies; and the American Political Science Association.

He participated in the project Identity and Borders in Flux: The Case of Ukraine (2019-2024, funded by the British Academy) and serves as a reviewer for Canadian Slavonic Papers, European Societies, Nationalities Papers, National Identities, Europe-Asia Studies, East European Politics and Societies, Nations and Nationalism, and East European Politics.

Volodymyr Kulyk has taught at Columbia University, Stanford University, the Ukrainian Free University, and Yale University.
