Ihor Serdiuk

Biography

Ihor Serdiuk is a Doctor of Historical Sciences and professor, specializes in the history of the Hetmanate, with research interests spanning historical urban studies, everyday life, the history of representations and historical anthropology, the history of childhood, quality of life, and the history of UAV use in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

He is a co-editor of historians.in.ua, founder of the Center for Historical and Anthropological Studies, project leader of a grant funded by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (2020–2023), associate member of CAS Sofia and VUIAS (2024–2025), researcher at the French Research Center in Humanities and Social Sciences (CEFRES), and a researcher affiliated with the Shevchenko Scientific Society in the United States.

Professor Ihor Serdiuk is the author of numerous books, articles, and popular science publications. His book A Little Adult: Children and Childhood in the Hetmanate received the Ivan Franko International Prize (2020). His academic achievements have been recognized with the President of Ukraine’s Award for Young Scientists (2022) and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Prize (2025).

In 2022–2024, he volunteered with the military-educational initiative Victory Drones and co-initiated the reform and development of the national school curriculum “Defense of Ukraine.” He has been awarded medals by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
