Biography
Anton Liahusha is a PhD and an expert in public history: historical narratology and media communications. He is a co-founder of one of the first graduate programs in Memory Studies and Public History in Ukraine, launched at the Kyiv School of Economics.
His research and public engagement focus on issues of memorialization, collective processes of making sense of loss, historical trauma, and the role of ego-documents in shaping the historical scholarship of the current war. He is known for critically challenging hierarchical approaches to commemorating the dead, advocating instead for democratic, inclusive, and sensitive practices of remembrance.
Since 2022, his academic interests have also included the use of informational instruments in power struggles within democratic and authoritarian regimes, with particular attention to the political use of memes.
Anton Liahusha has been a Research Fellow at the New School University Consortium (New York) and taught at George Mason University (2021-2023).
He is a member of the Coordinating Council responsible for developing and implementing Kyiv’s Concept for Memorialization of participants and events of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
