Reaping the Benefits and Minimising the Risks: Integration of the Ukrainian Agricultural and Food Sectors into the European Union

As a candidate member state of the European Union, Ukraine is advancing comprehensive reforms to align its legislation with the EU acquis. Since 2022, these reforms have been accompanied by substantial shifts in EU–Ukraine trade policy, creating both opportunities and challenges for deeper market integration. The project seeks to identify these dynamics in the agri-food sector with the aim of unlocking investments, accelerating modernization, and positioning Ukraine as a long-term contributor to the resilience and competitiveness of the EU Single Market.

Specific Aims:

  1. Assess the current context and highlight the potential benefits of Ukraine’s closer integration into the EU Single Market.
  2. Map business opportunities and economic gains arising from this process.
  3. Demonstrate Ukraine’s actual and prospective contribution to EU strategic objectives, including food security, climate action, and sustainable agriculture.
  4. Address sensitive issues related to integration that must be resolved to secure broad political and stakeholder support.

The project is commissioned by EBRD and executed by IAMO and KSE Agrocenter.
