On Thursday, December 27th, at 15.30 (room 408) Oleksandr Talavera will present his joint work with Yuriy Gorodnichenko and Tho Pham “Conference participation and research visibility”.
Using the data on publications listed on RePec and participation of their authors in conferences, the authors find that presentation of papers or abstracts of papers at conferences significantly increases the probability of publication as well as the number of paper or abstract downloads. Moreover, conference presentation is positively associated with authors’ career development. This happens because at conferences authors get valuable feedback on their work and also because at conferences authors can find co-authors – and co-authored papers are more likely to be published. Thus, conferences facilitate knowledge spillovers both directly and indirectly.
