Economic Policy Advisory Council

About the Economic Policy Advisory Council

This council, established at the initiative of Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, functions as an advisory body under the Ministry of Economy.

 

Economic Council is an international working Group of distinguished economists from around the world, with diverse expertise relevant to Ukraine’s economic recovery, EU integration, fiscal policy, and sustainable public debt management.

 

The role of the Economic Policy Advisory Council is to provide critical recommendations to create a stable macroeconomic environment, attract foreign direct investment, and ensure Ukraine’s rapid recovery and development.

Group members

The Advisory Council will comprise leading economists from various esteemed institutions, including:

 

Roger Myerson, Nobel Prize winner in economic sciences, professor at the University of Chicago.

Kenneth Rogoff, Professor at Harvard University, former Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Rory McFarquhar, Senior Vice President, International Institutions Engagement, Mastercard.

Beatriz Weder di Mauro, President at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

Torbjörn Becker, Director of the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE).

Gerard Roland, Professor of Economics and Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

The Council is chaired by Yuriy Gorodnichenko, Quantedge Presidential Professor of Economics Department of Economics, University of California, Berkeley.

 

Kyiv School of Economics is presented by:

 

• Tymofiy Mylovanov, KSE President, Associate Professor of the University of Pittsburgh, Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine (2019-2020);

• Nataliia Shapoval, Head of KSE Institute, Vice President for Economic and Policy Research at KSE;

• Elina Riabokova, Director of the International Program (KSE) – economist and expert on Emerging Markets in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa

• Benjamin Hilgenstock, Senior Economist (at KSE Institute)

 

KSE Graduates also take part in the development of economic policy recommendations: Ilona Sologoub, Director of Political and Economic Research at Kyiv School of Economics, Scientific Editor at VoxUkraine.

More than 30 experts operate in the working Group, most of whom represent the USA, Europe and Ukraine.

Group’s products:

The Economic Council is actively developing essential policy documents, strategies, and roadmaps. These resources include strategic advice and recommendations for the Ukrainian government, as well as facilitating in-depth, nuanced discussions to address Ukraine’s pressing economic and political challenges on a global scale.

Reports and Memos

• International economists, who are members of the Council, have prepared a study “Post-War Macroeconomic Architecture for Ukraine”, containing recommendations for reforms and other necessary measures to ensure the economic recovery and development of the state.

 

• Experts of the Advisory Council on Economic Policy to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, together with VoxUkraine think tank, published the study “Economic growth for post-war Ukraine”, which is a forecast of the macroeconomic model of Ukraine’s development in the context of post-war recovery and growth, as well as Ukraine’s accession to the European Union
