Seven more international companies exited Russia in April 2025 — KSE Institute

9 May 2025

In April 2025, seven more global corporations finalized their exit from Russia through business sales or liquidations. These include firms from the finance, machinery, insurance, power tools, fasteners, and security technology sectors: Caterpillar, Goldman Sachs, HDI Global SE, Metabowerke, YKK Group, IDEMIA, and ITT Inc.

These findings are presented in the monitoring by KSE Institute as part of its project “SelfSanctions / LeaveRussia,” aimed at assessing the economic impact of foreign companies exiting the Russian market.

Goldman Sachs, one of the most prominent U.S. investment banks, completed its exit more than two years after announcing plans to withdraw in March 2022. German insurer HDI Global SE fully divested its Russian operations. Heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar finalized the transfer of its Russian assets to a new owner.

Other exits included Japanese fastener giant YKK Group, German power tool brand Metabowerke, French firm IDEMIA — a security technology provider that sells facial recognition systems and other biometric identification tools and software to governments and private companies — and U.S.-based ITT Inc., which initiated the liquidation of its Russian business.

Meanwhile, in April, two companies — Silgan Holdings and STADA — were subjected to partial asset seizures in Russia. Their Russian businesses were placed under temporary external management by decree of Putin — another instrument the Kremlin uses to pressure foreign businesses.

Also in April, Belgian developer Ghelamco agreed to sell its only asset in Russia, while Prague-based pharmaceutical company Zentiva announced its intention to exit the Russian and neighboring regional markets. No official details have been disclosed so far.

As of early May, only 494 international companies (12%) have fully exited Russia. Nearly one-third (32.8% or 1,359 companies) have suspended operations or announced plans to withdraw. Meanwhile, 2,285 companies (55.2%) continue to operate in the Russian market.

A detailed list of companies, their statuses, and recent updates can be accessed on the LeaveRussia platform. Users can also verify the status of products and services through the Leave Russia mobile app, available in the App Store.

The next update covering May–June 2025 and Q2 statistics will be released in early July.
