We are sincerely pleased to announce that in August 2024, Volodymyr Kulyk, Ph.D. in Political Science, and Tina Polek, Ph.D. in History, anthropologist, will join the Kyiv School of Economics faculty. The renowned scholars will be teaching at the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Master’s Studies.

Volodymyr Kulyk is one of Ukraine’s key experts on language policy, national identity, and media discourse. The author of four books, including The Ukrainian Media Discourse (2010) and Language Policy in Multilingual Countries (2021), and numerous articles, for almost 27 years he has worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Volodymyr has also taught at Yale, Stanford, and Columbia Universities.

Having decided to return to Ukraine after more than a year of teaching and research at leading US universities, I chose a place where I can most effectively pass on my knowledge and experience to the new generation of Ukrainian scholars and specialists. KSE today is the best or at least the most dynamic of Ukrainian universities, which seeks to attract the best professors in Ukraine and the world. They approached me a while ago, but I first had to fulfill my previous commitments. I look forward to interesting projects and, most importantly, to bright and ambitious students. I am sure my work will be challenging but interesting, Volodymyr Kulyk commented on his new role at KSE University on his Facebook page.

Tina Polek is a Ukrainian anthropologist and anthropology promoter, co-founder of the Centre for Applied Anthropology, and a member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists. After working on academic research, she switched to the applied sphere and is now engaged in anthropological research for business and public organizations. Tina also runs the first Ukrainian educational Telegram channel about anthropology for business and society, Anthropolohynka.

Now there will be even more anthropology in Ukraine I am starting to work at the Kyiv School of Economics, which means anthropological courses in several programs and many, many discussions about ethnography, an inside look, and how to make the unobvious obvious. We start in September with the Urban Anthropology course in the Urban Studies and Postwar Reconstruction program,” Tina wrote on her Facebook page.

We congratulate our colleagues on joining our team and wish them success and inspiration in their teaching!
