- Applications for participation in the grant competition “Improving Research Work and Political Consulting for the Government by Civil Society on National Economy Issues” are now open
Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) announces the opening of applications for participation in the grants competition under the project “Supporting Ukraine in Reconstruction and Recovery,” a component of which is implemented by the Kyiv School of Economics and funded by the European Union.
Project Objective: To enhance research work, economic process modeling, risk modeling, analysis of market trends, development of reports, strategic recommendations, and support the implementation of projects for the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in the country’s development path.
About the Grants Competition:
The activities eligible for financial support should encompass one or several of the following types of activities:
• Policy consulting and providing consultations to government institutions and individuals responsible for policy formation related to the country’s recovery.
• Policy research and development of political and economic documents concerning the country’s recovery in priority sectors.
• Support for government institutions in communications with the international and national audience based on factual data.
Grant Size: The competition plans to award 20 grants, each with a value of up to EUR 10,000 (or its equivalent in UAH). The minimum grant size is EUR 5,000. Applicants are required to submit the project proposal budget in Euros.
Grant Period: The grants will be implemented from August 1 to November 1, 2023. The recommended implementation period should not exceed three months.
The proposed eligibility criteria for obtaining financial support are as follows:
For Research Institutions and NGOs:
– Existing research institutions or NGOs with relevant legal status (non-profit organizations, charitable foundations).
– Strong expertise in economic research and related activities or interdisciplinary topics such as:
• Loss and recovery assessment
• Social research
• Anti-corruption efforts
• Social impact and human capital
• Economic recovery
– Demonstrated institutional capacity to implement the project.
– Demonstrated institutional capacity to carry out complex projects.
– Willingness to participate in trainings and events related to the project.
– At least one recommendation from a government institution.
Public organizations eligible for this financial support may include:
– Economic analytical centers
– Social analytical centers
– Environmental NGOs
– Non-profit consulting firms
– Charitable foundations
– Political communication agencies
– University analytical centers
For Individual Researchers:
– Strong experience in economic research and related activities or interdisciplinary topics such as:
• Loss and recovery assessment
• Social research
• Anti-corruption efforts
• Social impact and human capital
• Economic recovery
– At least one recommendation from a government institution.
– Willingness to participate in trainings and events related to the project.
Proposals from organizations that do not meet the specified requirements will not be considered.
The application package consists of the following:
1. Completion of the application form (filled in MS Word format, .docx/.doc).
2. Completion of the budget form (in Excel format, .xlsx/.xls).
3. Recommendations from a government institution.
Submission Procedure:
Project proposals, along with the required documents, must be submitted electronically to the email address [email protected] no later than August 11, 2023. The subject of the email should be: “Application – [Your Organization Name] for the Grants Competition under the project ‘Improving Research Work and Political Consulting for the Government by Civil Society on National Economy Issues.'”
The final deadline for submission is August 11, 2023, at 8:00 PM Kyiv time. Project proposals received after the specified deadline will not be considered. All project proposals must be filled out and submitted in the Ukrainian language.
If a participant submits multiple applications for the competition, each application must be submitted in a separate email.

Evaluation Process:
Received project proposals will be checked for compliance with the competition requirements and then forwarded to the competition commission for review. The evaluation of proposals will consider their relevance to the project’s theme and priorities, achievability and effectiveness of the planned measures, the capacity of the applicant organization to successfully implement the project within the provided resources and the designated timeline, cost justification, etc
The selection results will be communicated to the participants via email, and the reasons for acceptance or rejection of a grant project will be included in the notification.
Monitoring and Reporting:
The grant recipient is obligated to provide a final report on the implementation of the project in the format specified in the contract entered into with the grant recipient. Additionally, other reports may be required as needed (interim, brief operational reports) to facilitate monitoring of the project’s implementation.
