Swedish Government Announces Establishment of Swedish Center for European Future at KSE

25 April 2025

On April 24, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa and Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine Martin Åberg visited KSE. During the visit, the distinguished guests met with students to discuss Ukraine’s path to EU membership, Sweden’s support and the important role of KSE in this process.

During the meeting, the Minister announced a new stage in the cooperation between our countries – the Government of Sweden will invest in the establishment of the Swedish Center for European Future at KSE. The new center will combine teaching, academic and policy research with public events to support Ukraine’s EU integration efforts.

“I am very pleased to announce our intention to contribute this important expansion of the KSE. With this funding to “The Swedish Centre for European Future”, the KSE will be able to recruit and retain Ukrainian and international academic personal and expand teaching, policy research and outreach activities. All with the objective to advance Ukraine’s further integration into the European Union”, – noted Benjamin Dousa, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade

The Center will engage Swedish professors and Ukrainian scientists in joint courses and research, and will host expert fellows from around the world to work on specific sections of EU legislation. The Center’s analytics will be useful for both policy makers and the public, and regular seminars and conferences will enhance academic and political ties between Ukraine and Sweden.

“This support from the Government of Sweden is an unwavering proof of solidarity with Ukraine. At the same time, it is a significant boost for the development of the education and research system based on European values and practices. We are honored to continue our long-term partnership with the Government of Sweden. I am confident that the Swedish Center for European Future at KSE will make a significant contribution to the European future of Ukraine and the renewal of the nation,” said Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of KSE.

Sweden supports the development of the Kyiv School of Economics since its inception. In partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Stockholm School of Economics, and the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics, KSE has become a leading educational and research center offering programs in engineering, urban studies, public policy, business, law, and cybersecurity, among others. The support of the Government and people of Sweden has played a crucial role in this.

Thanks to the support of our partners, even in the midst of the war, KSE continues to grow and lay the intellectual foundation for Ukraine’s future accession to the EU. The Kyiv School of Economics expresses its deep respect and gratitude to the distinguished guests for their visit and meeting with the students, as well as to all those involved for this opportunity.
