Public lecture of Monica Macovei: “Rocky road of Romania to real anti-corruption policy”

On April 20 at 6.30 pm Kyiv School of Economics will be hosting public lecture of Ms. Monica Macovei, ex-Minister of Justice of Romania, who currently is a member of the European Parliament. The topic of her lecture is “Rocky road of Romania to real anti-corruption policy”.

Ms. Macovei was a Minister of Justice in the government of Romania in 2004-2007, who contributed greatly to Romania’s EU accession in 2007 through anti-corruption policies and justice reform, which she elaborated and implemented, among other actions. She also was the one, who established the Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office in Romania to investigate high-level corruption and fraud. Financial Times called her “a hero who presided over Romania’s transformation from one of Europe’s most corrupt corners into credible candidate to join the European Union” in one of its articles in 2006. The expertise and objectives of Monica Macovei’s work include good governance, fight against corruption, political and economic cooperation, fair and predictable justice and civil rights.

The lecture of Monica Macovei is a part of #UkraineReforms project, which was launched by Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies in 2014 in partnership with Kyiv School of Economics, Reanimation Package of Reforms and Stronger Together.
