Public lecture of Simeon Djankov, ex-Minister of Finance of Bulgaria at KSE

Description

On Feb.22 at 7 p.m. the Kyiv School of Economics is hosting a public lecture of Simeon Djankov, former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of finance of Bulgaria. The topic of the lecture is “Successes and failures of reforms in Bulgaria. What’s in it for Ukraine?”.

Simeon Djankov held the post of Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of finance of Bulgaria from 2009 to 2013. Under his leadership, a comprehensive public administration reform was conducted – the number of employees of state agencies and ministries was cut substantially and new legislation was adopted to govern the work of all state employees. A successful fiscal reform was also implemented by setting the benchmarks for the fiscal deficit and national debt in the budget legislation.  Aside from state service, Simeon Djankov has extensive experience with the World Bank and International Financial Corporation, where he worked for 14 year. He is the author of Doing Business ranking and currently is a visiting professor at London School of Economics.

The visit of Mr. Djankov to Ukraine is a part of #UkraineReforms project, which was launched by Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies in 2014 in partnership with the Kyiv School of Economics, Reanimation Package of Reforms and Stronger Together campaign. More information about the project is available on the website of Martens Centre and on KSE website
