In the modern highly complex business world, managers feel a great pressure to make their organizations high performing. How can they concentrate on what really matters to reach outstanding goals efficiently and consistently? The course will explore what these dimensions mean to you as well as look at specific people management skills which you need to be able to apply in modern organizations.

 

Course structure:

The course consists of 50 academic hours and assumes reading & analyzing assigned material at home and completing other home assignments. The classes consist of a combination of lectures and group discussions; individual and group exercises and case studies.

 

Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

• understand the definition of the HPO, benefits of the HPO Framework implementation, and the 5 key factors of the HPO Framework;
• learn methods reshaping their organization unto a high-performance organization;
• be able to tailor the HPO Framework’s methods to their own specific organizational situation;
• be able to apply these methods in complex business situations.
• develop an integrated view of what people management means and how HRM skills, policies, and practices relating to the overall performance management.
• understand change management principles & approaches at the organizational and individual levels.
• learn what methods can be used to develop people and understand which of them have a primary role in leadership development throughout the organization.
• build confidence in applying a range of people management skills (delegation, coaching, engagement) through in-class practice & home assignments.

February 28 (4 hours)

Introduction to the High-Performance Organization Framework:

  • Our world of work: volatility + unpredictability + complexity + ambiguity
  • Organizational dilemmas – how to evolve in the world where change is a new norm and stability is a new luxury

High Performing Organization as a framework for sustainable development. What does it mean to be a conscious business?

  •   Long term orientation and WHY and HOWs of organizations
  • Management Quality: leadership mindset and new leadership paradigm. Self-assessments of leadership styles

 

February 29 (8 hours)

  •  Management Quality: Creating a leadership team. Dysfunctions of a team and how to work with them.
  •  Changeability: the nature of change. The forces of change. The impact of change on people. Role of managers in leading through change.
  • Organizational Culture as a competitive advantage. Elements of culture. Cases how companies approach culture change.
  • Roundtable discussion: how to approach building a high performing organization.
