What does receiving the VUIAS research fellowship mean for you as a scientist and for the development of mathematical research at KSE? What research will you be working on as part of the fellowship, and what problems do you aim to solve? How can the results of your research impact the advancement of mathematical science and the engagement of students in research activities? KSE professor Oleksandr Marynych shares his thoughts on the significance of the research fellowship he recently received from the Virtual Ukrainian Institute for Advanced Study.

[34
[355
post-80372","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news_type-news","unit-kse-university-en
For KSE, it is another step toward building a robust hub for mathematical research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration

For me, the VUIAS fellowship is primarily an opportunity to focus on fundamental mathematical research, as well as to exchange ideas with leading Ukrainian scholars working across various fields of knowledge. For KSE, it is another step toward building a robust hub for mathematical research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. It is especially vital that this program supports the development of Ukrainian science directly within Ukraine, despite all the challenges of wartime.

My project, “Randomized Models in Convex Stochastic Geometry,” is dedicated to studying random geometric structures and generalizing the classical concept of convexity. In particular, I am interested in how the geometric properties of shapes formed by randomly placed points change when varied generalizations of a convex hull are considered instead of a standard one. The goal of the research is to develop a unified mathematical approach that will allow us to bridge a number of known results and discover new regularities.

I hope that the project’s findings will contribute to the development of new methods at the intersection of probability theory and geometry, and potentially find applications in other scientific disciplines in the future. At the same time, stochastic geometry is an excellent field for engaging students in research, as many complex mathematical questions here stem from simple and visually intuitive geometric problems. It is precisely these kinds of problems that can form the basis for student research projects and serve as their first steps toward independent scientific work.
