Putin\u00a0unequivocally declared,<\/a>\u00a0on his Direct Line broadcast to the Russian people on April 16, that \u201cthe\u00a0question of\u00a0whether Russian troops are present in\u00a0Ukraine\u2026I\u00a0can tell you outright and\u00a0unequivocally that there are no Russian troops in\u00a0Ukraine.\u201d With such a categorical denial, any report on Russian military deaths in Ukraine would subject the writer to the Kremlin\u2019s full wrath, including four to eight years in prison. Besides, no established Russian media outlet would cover the story”<\/i><\/div>\n
