The World Cups in 2010 and 2014 hosted by South Africa and Brazil\u2013<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fifa.com\/mm\/document\/fifafacts\/mencompovw\/51\/99\/03\/133485-factsheet-fifahostcountriesoverview1930-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two BRICS countries<\/a>\u2013signaled their arrival on the world scene. A third BRICS member, Russia, is scheduled to host in 2018. The two largest public relations feathers in Vladimir Putin\u2019s hat are the Sochi Olympics and now the upcoming World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing could be worse for Putin than losing the 2018 World Cup; it would be more severe than the economic recession and Russia\u2019s declining living standards.
