Self-Sanctions / LeaveRussia
Russia began its aggression against Ukraine in 2014. On February 24, 2022, a full-scale invasion of Ukraine took place. This brutal war and the war crimes committed by Russian troops have caused a humanitarian crisis: thousands of civilians have died, and millions of people have become refugees. In response to Russian aggression, many international companies decided to leave the Russian market, while others continue to operate in Russia as usual. The Self-Sanctions / LeaveRussia project tracks the decisions of these companies and calls on them to stop financing the war.
Project aim
Following the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, international companies began issuing statements regarding their operations in the Russian market. A team of researchers and analysts from KSE Institute, together with volunteers, created this site to provide complete and objective information about companies' decisions to leave the Russian market or continue operating there. The Self-Sanctions / LeaveRussia site enables users to access up-to-date information and voice their position on social media, calling on companies to leave the Russian market and stop financing the war in Ukraine.
Project History
The LeaveRussia project was conceived and launched in March 2022 by a team of Ukrainian IT volunteers. In June 2022, the LeaveRussia team joined forces with the KSE Institute team, which had been working on the Self-Sanctions project analyzing the activities of international companies in the Russian market. The result was one of the largest company databases, presented on this site.
To unite efforts and further develop the project, the volunteer team transferred all rights to the LeaveRussia project and site to KSE Institute. Currently, KSE researchers and analysts work on the project together with volunteers.
